before you get your Cocker
How Much Money Does a Cocker Cost? The initial cost of purchasing Cocker will vary depending on who you buy them from and where you live. Expect to spend over $1,000. Contacting the local Cocker club or the the American Spaniel Club, Inc. is a good place to start to locate responsible breeders and start researching the initial cost of purchasing one. Keep in mind that a well-bred Cocker from a conscientious breeder could cost the same or less than a Cocker from a pet shop or puppy broker who is in the business to make money.
Here is an excellent article from PetEducation.com that discusses the benefits of purchasing a well-bred purebreed and the financial and emotional costs of purchasing and raising dogs entitled, Cost of Owning.

Congratulations to you for choosing to Save A Life and Adopt a dog in need! There are many many wonderful rescue people and organizations with dogs needing homes. Below are links to rescues that the members on our forums are personally familiar with or affiliated with. If you have a question about any of them, please join our forums for help.
If you’re not in a position right now to adopt a dog, you can always sponsor a dog or make donations for their care or better yet, become a foster parent! The bill to save Destiny was over $3,000. Without your help she would have died a painful death. The description under her plea for help from the rescue group, NY Abandoned Angels is heartbreaking:
"The x-rays revealed that her jaw was broken and also very badly infected that her entire body smelled of infection. This injury had to be at least one week old. There was no evidence of any trauma, therefore, the vet believes this horrific injury was caused mostly likely by being repeatedly kicked in the face or hit with an object such as a bat."
