Grooming and Health
As responsible guardians we are expected to keep our dogs in good health and good physical condition in partnership with our veterinarian. Grooming dogs, providing a nutritious diet, and performing routine care, such as cleaning their ears, teeth and maintaining their toe nails, are very important to their overall health and the quality of their lives. Much of this we can do ourselves with a little knowledge and experience, and then, there are a lot of issues we need to be aware of so that we can recognize problems and find the appropriate help.
This section is composed of links to information that I've found relevant to Cockers , but will help you care for any dog, holistically or conventionally. If you would like me to add anything here that you feel is important please contact me.

Strep: Did you know that dogs can catch strep from people and become carriers? If anyone in your household comes down with strep, talk with your vet and have your dog(s) treated too. Throw away toys, toothbrushes, food/water bowls that can not be sterilized. Talk with your vet if your dog has a heart murmur or other chronic health issues to see if the vet wants to try a course of antibiotics against strep.
