Reiki Precepts for Daily Living Reiki practitioners begin their day with these five precepts. These spiritual precepts have been handed down from Mikao Usui, the founder of the Usui system of Reiki, as a part of the oral tradition of the Usui System. The precepts are a goal that we aim for in our daily interactions with ourselves and other living beings. They help us actualize our way along our life's spiritual journey.

When we practice these five Reiki precepts, we live fully in the only moment that exists, which is NOW. They remind us to be conscious each moment of our thoughts and actions. Aspiring to live each day with these precepts in mind opens us to the potential of uniting everyone and every creature in peace as we practice compassion to ourselves and others, which bring us an inner peace that extends from us to every living creature we encounter during our day. These precepts also remind us to hold all of life as sacred. And, as we recognize our own sacredness, we take responsibility through our actions for becoming the peace and the example that we want to see in the world, and we love as we wish to be loved and treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves.
what is Reiki
Reiki means 'spiritual energy'. Rei (is Japanese) for spiritual or sacred, and ki (Japanese) means energy, which includes our energy, the energy of Heaven and Earth, and the energy of the entire universe.
Reiki practitioners function as activators or channels for this universal life energy that is available to all of us, of which we are a part of. The techniques used promote relaxation, stress reduction and healing. The goal of practicing is to bring oneself or others, including animals, plants, and the earth into balance.
"It must be conceived that everything has energy or ki in it - even a piece of paper or a plant, every item in the room, the building itself, the city, the country, the world, the universe and on and on. . . . there is an unlimited amount of energy. This energy may seem invisible, or elusive but it is, instead, all-encompassing. It is this energy that makes not just humans, but worlds, function. In Reiki Fire, by Frank Arjava Petter, he explains the Healing Balance our bodies can achieve on p. 79:
"According to Indian yoga, the human body is supplied with prana through three major and 80,000 minor energy channels called 'nadis.'
Chinese sources speak of twelve major energy channels called meridians and eight minor ones. They are the basis for acupuncture and Chinese-style Qigong, among others. In either system, disease is seen as the result of an obstruction of 'our' life energy somewhere in these channels. Disease, therefore, boils down to either an absence or an overdose of energy at one spot. In the first case, disease can be counter-balanced by bringing energy back to the place where it is lacking. Using that extra boost of energy, the diseased body can then heal itself. In the second case, the accumulated energy is spread over a wider area and thereby absorbed. In fact, there is no healer. Your body and only your own body knows how to heal itself. The Reiki (or other) practitioner simply acts as a catalyst . . ."
who can learn Reiki
Everyone of any age can learn to practice Reiki. There are different schools and systems of Reiki, but always keep in mind that Reiki is sacred energy. Whatever school or system of Reiki someone learned from, the energies they are working with are all the same. It is important to understand that Reiki brings profound changes into the practitioner and patient's lives.
The practice of Reiki begins within one's self, and is a life-long journey into understanding ourselves and the purpose of our lives.

Situations that Reiki can be utilized for include any situation causing distress and unbalance in an energy systems. With Reiki we can bless someone and surrounding them with protection and empowerment, address mental or emotional issues (nervousness, fear, depression, anger, sadness, unwanted habits by working with them in person or at a distance. We can also work to bring balance to animals, plants, the earth and the universe.
